Start at the top. Unplug the machine first.

    Look in the lid lock area and clear out any objects or clothing caught in the mechanism.

    Open the door and close it again firmly — it can look shut without being latched.

    Check for laundry sticking out beyond the door opening, and reduce the load so the clothes can tumble freely.

    Unplug the washer for 5 minutes, then plug it back in to reset the control.
